2026 Novices Tournament at West Backwell BC

We are delighted to announce that we will be putting on our 4th tournament for novice players with up to 3 years playing experience anywhere. We want everyone to be able to 'thrive with bowls' no matter their experience. It’s great to get tournament experience, as it's good fun and an enjoyable day. With prize money and a great competition all round, it gives all new players the chance to experience a tournament
Applications for entry are now open for this year’s Open Pairs, Novices Tournament for the Kate Horler Trophy, taking place on Saturday 12 September 2026
If you are eligible, ie. started bowling outdoors after 1st April 2023, and wish to enter, you can send your details to: [email protected].
Please include:-
- Names of both team members
- The bowling club(s) that they are members of
- Contact email addresses
- Contact phone number(s) (mobile preferred)
- To confirm your entry please make £16 payment by BACS to:
We will be making the draw and sending out the details a few weeks before the Tournament. Start time will be 09:30am for Group A and 10:30am for Group BWest Backwell Bowling Club 20-94-74 40580619, in the reference please could you put NT followed by your surname e.g. NT Matley

Thrive With Bowls Novice Tournament at West Backwell Bowling Club.

The Kate Horler Trophy
The trophy is in memory of Kate Horler, a member of West Backwell BC. Jerry, Kate's husband, has donated this trophy in her memory. Both keen supporters of introducing bowls to as wide an audience as possible and supporting those of us at the beginning of our bowling journey.
The Tournament Details
Thrive with Bowls Novice Tournament WBBC
Open to any pairs of any gender with 3 years or less playing experience.
When: 12th September 2026
Where: West Backwell Bowling Club, BS48 3HQ

Time: Starts Group A 09:30, Group B 10:30
The full draw will be made and emailed to you a few weeks before.
Entry: By email with both names, main contact email and mobile number for your team.
£16 per pair. By BACS to West Backwell Bowling Club

Includes: tea/coffee on arrival and afternoon cakes.
The bar will be open and food available to purchase.
Prize money: £100 winners, £80 runners up, £40 third place, £20 fourth place

Additional Information
There is free parking in the Leisure Centre car park which is immediately adjacent to the Bowling Club. Wheelchair access is via the ramp at the corner of the green where Corams Lane joins Springfield Road.
