This week I asked Sir Winston Churchill's great-grandson to provide a commentary on this week's WSBL performances

My fellow Wellingtonians, Players of A, B, and C; guardians of the jack; defenders of the green — I speak to you now at a moment of great trial and great opportunity for our noble club.

To the Wellington B Team — Our Triumphant Vanguard

You, the gallant B team, stride through Division Two like a regiment in full parade. Unbeaten, unshaken, unbowed — your victories shine like beacons across the league. You have shown the county what Wellington spirit truly means: courage in the head, precision in the hand, and fire in the heart.

Let no man doubt that your campaign is one of destiny. March on, therefore, with the confidence of champions in waiting.

To the Wellington C Team — The Unpredictable Heroes

You, the C team, are the wild heart of Wellington — a band of brothers who fight with flair, mischief, and marvellous unpredictability. You win when others expect you to falter; you rise when others believe you spent.

Stand firm, C team, for your cause is just and your spirit indomitable. The league has not heard the last of you.

To the Wellington A Team — Our Stalwart Defenders

And now, with solemn pride, I turn to the A team. Your path has been hard. Your fortunes have been cruel. But I say to you: this is not your end — it is your finest hour in waiting.

For it is in adversity that Wellington men have always found their strength. When the aggregates fall against you, when the scoreboards glare with misfortune, when the county whispers doubts — that is the moment to rise.

You fight not only for points, but for honour, for pride, and for the great tradition of this club.

One Club, One Spirit

Let it be known across Somerset that Wellington Bowling Club does not fracture, does not falter, does not fade.

We are one club — bound by camaraderie, forged in competition, and united in purpose.

Whether you stand atop the table or at its foot, whether you win by twenty or lose by ten, you carry the same badge, the same colours, the same unbreakable spirit.

And so I say to you all:

Go forward into Week Five with heads held high. Let every bowl you deliver be a declaration of intent. Let every end be fought with the courage of lions. Let every opponent know that Wellington does not yield.

For we shall fight on the greens, we shall fight on the mats, we shall fight in the sun and in the rain, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing skill — and we shall never surrender.
